1. What types of concerns do you support?
Families commonly approach us for concerns involving:
- Learning and academic difficulties, including reading, writing, spelling, comprehension and mathematics
- Attention, impulsivity, executive functioning and organisational difficulties
- Autism-related differences, social communication and friendship skills
- Emotional, behavioural and regulation concerns, including anxiety, low mood, low self-confidence and school-related stress
- Handwriting, fine-motor and sensory-processing difficulties, as well as examination accommodations and educational planning
This list is not exhaustive. An initial consultation allows us to understand your concerns and recommend the most suitable next step.
2. How do I know which service my child needs?
You do not need to decide which service is most suitable on your own. That is what we are here for! Our psychologist will review your concerns, meet your child, and guide you on the most suitable next step. This may include recommending a psychoeducational assessment or the most suitable form of therapy to help your child.
Appointments and Initial Consultation
3. Do you accept walk-in appointments?
No. Visits to Bearie Learning Space are by appointment only. Please contact us in advance so we can understand your needs and arrange a suitable time.
4. How do I make an appointment?
You may contact us through WhatsApp, telephone, email or our website enquiry form.
Please include:
- Your child’s name and age
- School and current educational level
- Your main concerns
- Any existing diagnosis or previous assessment
5. What happens before the first consultation?
Once an appointment is confirmed, we will ask you to complete an intake form and provide relevant background information.
We may also arrange a brief pre-session call so that the psychologist can understand your child’s history and prepare appropriately for the consultation.
6. What happens during the initial consultation?
Our usual initial consultation includes approximately 45 minutes for the psychologist to engage with and understand your child, followed by about 15 minutes for a parent debrief.
Before the appointment, we may also speak with the parent briefly to obtain background information. The exact format may be adjusted depending on the child’s age, and concerns.
7. What documents should I provide?
Helpful documents may include:
- Previous psychological or medical reports
- School report books / Examination papers
- Teacher comments
- Individual education or support plans
- Therapy reports
You do not need to have these documents before arranging a consultation.
8. What should I tell my child before the appointment?
You can tell your child that they will be meeting a teacher who helps children understand how they learn, manage their feelings and make things easier at school or at home.
Reassure them that they have not done anything wrong and that the visit is not a punishment.
9. Can I book an assessment immediately without a consultation?
We strongly recommend an initial consultation before confirming a full psychoeducational assessment.
This allows the psychologist to understand your child’s history and concerns, determine the most appropriate assessment scope, and avoid unnecessary testing. It also gives the psychologist an opportunity to build rapport with your child before the assessment. When a child feels more comfortable and familiar with the psychologist, this can reduce performance anxiety and help them engage more confidently and do their best during the assessment.
10. What happens after the initial consultation?
After the consultation, the psychologist and centre director will share their initial observations and recommend the most suitable next step. This may involve strategies for home or school, further assessment, therapy or support from another professional. We will explain the recommendations and answer any questions you may have. You can then decide whether you would like to proceed.
11. Will I receive a written report after the consultation?
A standard initial consultation does not include a formal written report.
Advice and recommendations will generally be shared verbally during the session. Written reports are only included when a formal assessment or testing has been conducted. If you require a letter, summary or other documentation after a consultation or therapy session, please let us know. Charges may apply.
Psychological Assessment and Diagnosis
12. What is a psychoeducational assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment is a structured process used to understand a child’s cognitive, academic, developmental, behavioural, emotional or social functioning.
It may involve interviews, standardised testing, questionnaires, observations, school information and a review of relevant records. The goal is not simply to produce a score or label, but to identify your child’s strengths and needs so that practical support can be recommended for home, school or therapy.
13. What assessments do you provide?
Our most commonly requested assessments include:
- Autism
- ADHD
- Specific Learning Disorder, including Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia
- IQ and Adaptive Functioning
- School Readiness Assessment
The exact assessment scope will be confirmed after consultation.
14. What is the difference between a consultation and a full assessment?
A consultation helps the psychologist understand your concerns and recommend the most suitable next step. If an assessment is recommended, the type and scope will depend on what is discussed during the consultation and the concerns that need to be addressed. A full assessment then uses multiple sources of information and standardised measures to explore specific diagnostic or educational concerns.
15. Are your psychologists and therapists registered?
Yes. All our Educational and Clinical Psychologists are registered with the Singapore Register of Psychologists, which is maintained by the Singapore Psychological Society.
Our Speech-Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists are registered with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) and hold valid Practising Certificates. We are very selective about who joins our team and only hire therapists with substantial experience in their respective fields.

16. Will the school automatically receive the results?
No. We will not automatically share your child’s diagnosis or report with the school, even if the school recommended the assessment. Your child’s information is kept confidential and is not published or listed in any public registry. We will only share it with your consent, unless disclosure is required by law or needed to address a serious safety concern.
17. What does an assessment usually involve?
A comprehensive assessment may include:
- Standardised testing based on the child’s needs and concerns
- Interviews with the child and parents, together with a review of relevant records
- Questionnaires, school information and observations
- A feedback session and written report with recommendations
The exact components will depend on your child and the purpose of the assessment.
18. Can you assess for more than one condition at the same time?
Yes, where clinically appropriate.
Conditions and difficulties may overlap. For example, a child may experience attention difficulties together with dyslexia, anxiety, autism-related differences or handwriting challenges. The psychologist will recommend an assessment scope that considers relevant possibilities without adding unnecessary tests.
19. Can the report support an application for examination accommodations?
Our assessments may provide evidence relevant to applications for arrangements such as additional time, double copies of examination papers, a separate room, use of a prompter or other accommodations.
20. Can the report help with Mother Tongue exemption?
Where appropriate, the assessment findings may be used to support your child’s Mother Tongue exemption application. We will guide you through the process and explain how the findings may be relevant. The final approval is granted by the school and relevant educational authorities.
21. Can you assess a child who already has a previous report?
Yes. Please provide the earlier report before the consultation.
The psychologist will consider why reassessment is being requested, whether sufficient time has passed and whether repeating particular tests is valid or necessary.
22. What happens during the feedback session?
During the feedback session, the psychologist will explain:
- The key findings and what they mean in everyday terms
- Whether any diagnostic criteria were met
- Your child’s strengths and areas where support may be needed
- Recommendations for intervention, home and school strategies, educational accommodations and next steps
There will be time for you to ask questions, and we will make sure you leave with a clear understanding of the results and what to do next.
23. Will the report contain recommendations?
Yes. Our comprehensive report will connect the findings to practical recommendations.
Recommendations may cover intervention, home support, classroom strategies, examination arrangements, further referrals and areas for monitoring.
Fees, Payment and Insurance
24. How much do your services cost?
Fees vary depending on the type of service, the professional involved, the session duration and the scope of work. We will inform you of the applicable fees before confirming your appointment.
For assessments, a quotation is usually provided after the psychologist has understood your concerns during the initial consultation and determined the appropriate assessment scope. Please contact us for a personalised quotation.
25. Can I claim the fees from my insurance company?
Some families may have personal or corporate insurance policies that cover selected psychological or therapy services. However, coverage and claim requirements can vary.
Where appropriate, we are happy to support your claim by preparing a memo or other relevant documentation. Additional charges may apply.
